The data tables summarizing charitable solicitations activity in 2018 are available as separate downloadable Excel files. Each of the files below includes separate data provided by registered charitable organizations, paid solicitors, and professional fundraising consultants.

Explanation of the data

Overall charity financial information

The financial information summarized in the two "overall charity financial information" tables below is information that was on file with the Secretary of State's Office as of November 30, 2018 at 11:59 PM. Since financial reports are due by the 15th day of the fifth month following the close of an organization's fiscal year, the due dates vary. Consequently, the most recent financial reports filed as of November 30, 2018 were those of calendar year organizations whose accounting periods ended on December 31, 2017. The initial due date for calendar year organizations was May 15, 2018. Since charitable organizations are granted a three-month extension automatically (as long as the IRS also approved such an extension) and can request a second three-month extension, financial reports covering any accounting period ending in 2017 were due by November 15, 2018, at the latest. Any charitable organization that has not provided a financial report for a fiscal year that ended in 2017 is no longer registered (i.e. its registration has expired). An organization whose registration has expired cannot legally solicit charitable contributions in Colorado, unless it is exempt from the registration requirement by law (see § 6-16-104(6)(a)-(d), C.R.S.).

For a number of reasons, it is also possible that a charitable organization could be registered now, despite not being listed in either of these two tables. Similarly, the registration of an organization listed in this report may have expired, been withdrawn, suspended, denied, or revoked since publication, so the reader is encouraged to visit www.checkthecharity.com for the most current information on any charitable organization.

The information summarized in the annual report reflects the general financial condition of charitable organizations registered to solicit contributions in Colorado as well as the results of any solicitation campaigns run by paid solicitors. The totals do not reflect activity in Colorado alone. More specifically, "Total Contributions" as listed in the "all registered charities" and "Colorado-based charities" tables does not reflect total donations by Coloradans. Such information on total donations by Colorado residents must be culled from data contained in individual federal income tax returns, which can be found on the Internal Revenue Service's website in the "Statistic of Income Bulletin."

The information listed in the "solicitation campaign data" tables comes from solicitation campaign financial reports filed by paid solicitors from December 1, 2017 - November 30, 2018. The tables labeled as five-year summaries are based on solicitation campaign financial reports filed by paid solicitors from December 1, 2013 - November 30, 2018.

Campaign reports vs. solicitations notices

The tables labeled, "Campaign reports vs. solicitation notices" compare the actual results of solicitation campaigns as disclosed in campaign reports filed from December 1, 2017 - November 30, 2018 to the anticipated results as disclosed in solicitation notices that were filed prior to the commencement of those campaigns.
