Proposed Initiative #257 (“Local Voter Approval of Gaming Limits in Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek”) Qualifies For 2020 General Election Ballot
Denver, August 27, 2020 – The Elections Division of the Colorado Secretary of State’s office announced today that Proposed Initiative 257 (“Local Voter Approval of Gaming Limits in Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek”) obtained the sufficient number of signatures and has qualified for inclusion on the 2020 General Election ballot.
The “Local Voter Approval of Gaming Limits in Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek” Initiative submitted 209,855 petition signatures, needing 124,632 valid signatures to qualify for inclusion on the 2020 ballot. Since Proposed Initiative #257 seeks to change the Colorado constitution, the petition must also contain signatures from each state senate district equal to 2% of the total registered electors in each respective district. These requirements are outlined by Article V, Section 1 (2.5) of the Colorado constitution.

The other approved initiatives are Senate Bill 19-042 National Popular Vote Referendum, Initiative 76 (“Citizen Qualification of Electors”), Initiative 107 (“Restoration of Gray Wolves”), Initiative 120 (“Prohibition on Late-Term Abortion”), Initiative 306 (“State Income Tax Rate Reduction”), Initiative 295 (“Voter Approval Requirement for Creation of Certain Fee-Based Enterprises”), and Initiative 283 (“Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program”).
