Proposed Initiative #283 (“Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program”) Qualifies For 2020 General Election Ballot

Denver, August 25, 2020 – The Elections Division of the Colorado Secretary of State’s office announced today that Proposed Initiative 283 (“Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program”) obtained the sufficient number of signatures and has qualified for inclusion on the 2020 General Election ballot.

The “Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program” Initiative submitted 205,660 petition signatures, needing 124,632 valid signatures to qualify for inclusion on the 2020 ballot.  After reviewing a 5% random sample of the submitted signatures, the Elections Division of the Secretary of State’s office projected the number of valid signatures to be 137,999, greater than 110 percent of the total number of signatures required for placement on the ballot.   These requirements are outlined by Article V, Section 1 (3) of the Colorado constitution.

The initiatives approved for the 2020 ballot at this time are Senate Bill 19-042 National Popular Vote Referendum, Initiative 76 (“Citizen Qualification of Electors”), Initiative 107 (“Restoration of Gray Wolves”), Initiative 120 (“Prohibition on Late-Term Abortion”), Initiative 306 (“State Income Tax Rate Reduction”), and Initiative 295 (“Voter Approval Requirement for Creation of Certain Fee-Based Enterprises”).
