“Citizen Qualification Of Electors” Initiative Qualifies For 2020 Ballot

Denver, December 12, 2019 – The Elections Division at the Colorado Secretary of State’s office announced today that Proposed Initiative 76 (“Citizen Qualification of Electors”) has qualified for the 2020 General Election ballot.   

The “Citizen Qualification Of Electors” Initiative proposes a change the Colorado Constitution, therefore the petition must contain signatures from each state senate district equal to 2% of the total registered electors from each respective district. This is in addition to meeting the 124,632 threshold as outlined by Article V, Section 1 (2.5) of the Colorado Constitution.

Petition Verification Summary: 

Total (signatures submitted)

Total Invalid signatures: 64,912

Invalid signatures (state senate district known): 10,659

Invalid signatures (state senate district not known): 54,253

Total valid signatures: 137,362

A record of all accepted and rejected signatures, including reasons for each rejection is on file with the Secretary of State.

The only other initiative approved for the ballot at this time is Senate Bill 19-042 National Popular Vote Referendum.
