Secretary of State: Ballot returns for the 2016 primary

DENVER, June 29, 2016 -- Here's the latest tally from county clerks of mail ballots received and in-person voting for Tuesday's primary election:

Democrats -- Ballots sent: 991,101; Ballots returned: 282,584; Percent: 28.51%

Republicans -- Ballots sent: 998,062; Ballots returned: 357,991; Percent: 35.86%

Those numbers are based on unofficial results. Overseas and military ballots are still coming in and counties are reaching out to voters with ballot signature issues.

"I appreciate the Coloradans who turned out to nominate candidates in this election," Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams said. "Choosing our elected officials is critical to our republic's future."

He also thanked the county clerks and their election staff and judges, who ensured Coloradans' ability to participate in the primary.

Preliminary statewide and county-by-county results for the 2016 Primary Election are available on the Election Night Reporting page of the Secretary of State’s website.

A county-by-county analysis of the latest ballot returns can be viewed by opening the attached file or going to Accountability in Colorado Elections, ACE, the innovative page of the Colorado Secretary of State website containing election and voting statistics of all kinds.

Today's numbers included ballots that were received in a timely manner but have not yet been signature verified, and ballots that were rejected for missing or discrepant signatures. Voters who submitted the latter ballots have until July 6 to cure the deficiency.
