Colorado Secretary of State’s office wins NASS IDEAS award

DENVER, July 13, 2015 – The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) awarded the 2015 NASS IDEAS award to the Colorado Secretary of State’s office this weekend during their summer conference in Portland, Maine. The award was given in recognition of the Go Code Colorado initiative.

Partnering with the Governor’s Office, the Office of Economic Development and International Trade, and the Office of Information Technology, Go Code Colorado works to make state-managed, public data more accessible on the Colorado Information Marketplace portal (data.colorado.gov). Go Code Colorado is a leader in the open data movement, staging a civic app challenge that engages entrepreneurs and developers to build data-fueled apps that help businesses make better decisions.

"Go Code Colorado demonstrates the best of intra-governmental collaboration and public-private partnership to create a better business environment in Colorado while making government more open and transparent," said Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams. “We are absolutely thrilled by the success of Go Code Colorado.”

The NASS IDEAS award recognizes innovation, dedication, excellence, and achievement in state member programming, as well as significant contributions to the state information-sharing mission of NASS. All NASS IDEAS award submissions were reviewed and ranked by members according to their history, significance and effects, resulting in four national finalists. The members then voted to select the national honoree.

"The nation's Secretaries of State are pleased to celebrate Colorado's recognition as our innovative program of the year, which sets a high standard for other states engaged in providing business services," said NASS President Elaine Marshall of North Carolina. "It is a testament to the office's commitment to investment and excellence in state government programming at a higher level."

Go Code Colorado has received numerous awards for its success and innovative nature, including the CIO 100 award, the International Association of Commercial Administrators (IACA) Merit Award, and the Colorado Technology Association’s Technology Project of the Year Award. Earlier this year, Go Code Colorado was recognized as a Bright Idea by Harvard’s Kennedy School through its Innovations in American Government Awards competition.
