Colorado Secretary of State's office wins merit award

Secure Business Filing System called "creative, innovative and forward thinking"

Denver, April 16, 2012 - The International Association of Commercial Administrators (IACA) named the Colorado Secretary of State’s office as a Merit Award recipient for its Secure Business Filing system. The password protection system was developed to safeguard business filing records and thwart business identity theft.

“Colorado is at the leading edge providing innovative solutions to serve our business community,” Secretary of State Scott Gessler said. “Colorado businesses deserve to know their information filed at the Secretary of State’s office is secure. Secure Business Filing is the first-of-its-kind to provide businesses the option to protect their records from unauthorized changes by identity thieves.”

Working with state and federal law enforcement agencies and the private sector, the Secretary of State’s office has become a national leader combating the growing problem of business identity theft. Gessler continues to work with law enforcement agencies and national stakeholders to identify the criminals and shut down their operations. He currently serves as an advisor on the National Association of Secretaries of State Business Identity Theft Task Force, helping other states curb this criminal activity.

IACA will present this year’s Merit Awards  on May 21 to recognize those jurisdictions who have successfully implemented innovative changes within their offices. The awards provide other jurisdictions the opportunity to learn from the best practices and innovative solutions being implemented by commercial administrators around the world.

The International Association of Commercial Administrators (IACA) is a professional association for government administrators of business organizations and secured transaction record systems at the state, provincial, territorial, and national level in any jurisdiction which has or anticipates development of such systems.
