Additional Information |

Statutory Authority |
The basis for this emergency rule is sections 12-20-204, 12-235-118, and 24-4-103(6)(a), C.R.S. |
Purpose/Objective of Rule |
The purpose of these emergency rules is to effectuate SB24-201 and bring the rules of the Office of Massage Therapy Licensure into accordance with current statutory requirements. Specifically, SB24-201 increased the number of educational hours required for an individual to qualify for licensure to practice massage therapy in Colorado from 500 to 650 hours.
Through this emergency rulemaking, the Director of the Division of Professions and Occupations (“Division Director”) is promulgating these emergency rules to conform with current statutory standards as enacted in SB24-201 in order to remove inconsistency between current statutory requirements and the applicable regulations, and to provide clarity with respect to the requirements for licensure for massage therapy educational programs, massage therapy students, applicants for licensure, and the public. Because SB24-201 contained a safety clause, the increased educational requirements for massage therapy licensure are currently in effect, thus requiring emergency rulemaking to align the rules with statute. |
