| Description of Subjects/Issues |
This rulemaking process is a result of SB 20-009. This bill prompts the Adult Education and Family Literacy Grant program in 22-10-104 C.R.S. to update the grant criteria and reinforce the program’s focus to assist adults in attaining basic literacy and numeracy skills that lead to credential attainment and/or employment. Also, the definition of an eligible grant applicant was expanded to include a tribe or tribal nation and consortia of partners.
The goals of this program are to:
• Assist adults in attaining basic literacy and numeracy skills that lead to additional skill acquisition and may lead to postsecondary credentials and employment
• Assist adults in providing academic support to their own children or to children for whom they provide care.
The State Board of Education, in awarding grants, is to give preference to adult education programs that serve populations that are underserved by federal funding. The current funding amount for this program is $970,000. These are matching funds for Colorado’s federal adult education grant. The allocation was unchanged as a result of this bill. |
