| Description of Subjects/Issues |
The purpose of the proposed new rule (Rule 1.26) is to implement Colorado Senate Bill 19-079, which requires optometrists to prescribe controlled substances electronically on or after July 1, 2021, unless a statutory exception applies. Additionally, the proposed changes throughout the State Board of Optometry’s rules are in compliance with section 24-4-103.3, C.R.S., which mandates a regularly scheduled review of the rules to assess the continuing need, appropriateness, and cost-effectiveness of its rules to determine if they should be continued in their current form, modified, or repealed. |
| Purpose/Objective of Rule |
The purpose of this Rulemaking is for the permanent adoption of the proposed new rule (Rule 1.25) to implement Colorado Senate Bill 19-079, which requires optometrists to prescribe controlled substances electronically on or after July 1, 2021, unless a statutory exception applies; and the permanent adoption of changes to multiple existing rules for the State Board of Optometry in compliance with section 24-4-103.3, C.R.S., which mandates a regularly scheduled review of the rules to assess the continuing need, appropriateness, and cost-effectiveness of its rules to determine if they should be continued in their current form, modified, or repealed. |
