Description of Subjects/Issues |
A rule edit is proposed to formalize the organization and functions of DVR's Blind and Low Vision Services unit providing quality statewide vocational rehabilitation services to DVR clients who are blind or have low vision. |
Purpose/Objective of Rule |
Individuals who are blind or have low vision have unique rehabilitation needs. This rule formalizes a dedicated organizational structure of the Blind and Low Vision Services (BLVS) unit within DVR. The structure of the BLVS unit supports quality service provision through providing well-qualified staff with the requisite skills and training to support vocational outcomes for those with blindness and low vision, while ensuring ongoing stakeholder engagement. |

A preliminary stakeholder meeting was held October 17, 2019, to discuss rule concepts. A public hearing was held December 6, 2019, to review the draft rule. Attendees expressed support for the promulgation of the rule to ensure the continuation of the BLVS unit. |
