| Purpose/Objective of Rule |
Required by statute, the rules contain a provision that sets the funding limit of the grants. The adopted rules set the maximum district award at $10,000. Based on the number of requested applications from school districts and the maximum award amount, the entire appropriation for the grant program will not be utilized this fiscal year. The Department is recommending that the rules be amended to enable the State Board to award grant funds above the $10,000 limit in the event that grant funds are not expended after funding each eligible application in a given cycle.
This rule change will allow the Board to fully fund those grant applications that requested funding greater than $10,000 and avoid reverting a portion of the appropriation this fiscal year. With this action in place, the Department can run an additional grant application process to allow districts to request beyond the $10,000 limit and enable additional districts to apply for funds this fiscal year. |
