Colorado again ranks high in voter turnout

DENVER, Nov. 13, 2018 -- Colorado this week is looking to wrap up its historic midterm election that set new records for turnout. Colorado's turnout was the second highest in the nation.

Some counties are still "duplicating" ballots, a process done by hand, with members of two parties filling in the ballot while two others observe the process. Ballot images are public record, and election officials must ensure there is nothing on the image that can identify the voter. Also, marks in the barcode or stains, such as coffee, will prevent the scanner used to tabulate the ballots from reading them.

Military and overseas ballots and signature "cures" must be completed by Wednesday, and counties will update results Thursday. The Colorado Secretary of State's office on Friday will conduct its third statewide risk-limiting audit to ensure that a voter's intent was correctly recorded.

Minnesota, home of two closely watched U.S. Senate races, ranked first in voter turnout at 64.3 percent. Colorado is second at 61.9 percent, followed closely by Oregon, Wisconsin and Montana.

Attached is the latest ballot return report from the general election on Nov. 6. To receive email updates from the Secretary of State's office about ballot returns or other news, visit www.sos.state.co.us and subscribe under the "Email updates" section.
