Veterans Small Business Week begins Monday

DENVER, Nov. 2, 2018 - Secretary of State Wayne Williams is proud to support Colorado Veterans Small Business Week, beginning Monday.

The nationwide Small Business Administration event celebrates the accomplishments of every veteran, service member and military spouse who is a small business owner.

"I am thankful that the SBA makes an effort to help veterans and their families," Secretary Williams said. "My office provides tools to the military community in Colorado to make it easy to start and maintain a small business."

In May, Secretary Williams attended an awards ceremony as part of National Small Business Week. Fort Carson’s Mission and Installation Contracting Command & 918th Contracting Battalion won the Region VIII Small Business Advocate of the Year award. The award is presented to an individual or organization that assists entrepreneurs through advocacy and other efforts that raise the profile, effectiveness, health, vitality, growth, and expansion of small business in the region.

Colorado's economy is outperforming most of the country, according to the latest economic indicators report released by the Secretary of State's Office. There are over 700,000 businesses in Colorado that are in good standing.

Secretary Williams attends events throughout the state to support Colorado's small business community. In August, he and the office's business and licensing director, Mike Hardin, attended Colorado Regional Regulatory Reform Roundtables organized by the SBA. The event was an effort to engage business owners throughout the state in a discussion about regulations.

At the 11th annual veterans small business conference in April, Secretary Wayne Williams emphasized that Colorado is one of the best states in the country to start a business. Many business filing options are available online and Colorado is the only state to offer free online business certifications.

Throughout the week, the SBA Colorado District Office and others will host local events focused on entrepreneurial training, access to capital, federal and commercial procurement opportunities, and innovation opportunities. Many partner organizations throughout the state are offering free registrations for veterans.

Find out more information about the week and events near you by visiting the SBA's website.
