Initiative 20 deemed sufficient

"ColoradoCare" will appear on 2016 ballot

DENVER, Nov. 9, 2015 - Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams announced today that the proposed ballot measure concerning “ColoradoCare" was deemed sufficient as required by statute.

Proponents submitted their petitions for  Proposed Initiative 20 (PDF) to the Secretary of State’s office on Oct. 23. A 5 percent random sample of the submitted signatures projected the number of valid signatures to be greater than 110 percent of the total number of signatures required for placement on the ballot.

Because the random sample verification established that the projected number of valid signatures totals 110.80 percent of the amount required for placement on the ballot, Proposed Initiative 20 is sufficient and will be certified to the 2016 general election ballot.

Under Colorado law, and barring a successful protest, the initiative will tentatively be numbered “Amendment 69.”

Petition verification summary:

Total number of qualified signatures submitted 158,831
5% of qualified signatures submitted (random sample) 7,942
Total number of entries accepted (valid) from the random sample 5,457
Total number of entries rejected (invalid) from the random sample 2,485
Number of projected valid signatures from the random sample 109,134
Total number of signatures required for placement on ballot 98,492
Projected percentage of required valid signatures 110.80%
