Colorado Secretary of State’s office wins CIO 100 award

Denver, June 1, 2015 - IDG’s CIO Magazine today named the Colorado Secretary of State’s office as a recipient of the 2015 CIO 100 Award for the Go Code Colorado program. The award will be presented at an event at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs in August. Every year CIO Magazine identifies and honors 100 organizations that have distinguished themselves by creating business value through the effective and innovative use of information technology.

"We are truly honored to receive this award," said Secretary of State Wayne Williams. "This award, among the several given to Go Code Colorado, shows our desire for innovative, technology-based solutions that make government more open and transparent, and deliver new services to our citizens and customers."

Go Code Colorado is an initiative of the Colorado Secretary of State’s office. Partnering with the Governor’s Office, the Office of Economic Development and International Trade, and the Office of Information Technology, the program works to make state-managed, public data more accessible on the Colorado Information Marketplace portal (data.colorado.gov). Go Code Colorado is a leader in the open data movement, staging a civic app challenge that engages entrepreneurs and developers to build data-fueled apps that help businesses make better decisions.

Go Code Colorado was also awarded the International Association of Commercial Administrators (IACA) Merit Award last month. Last November, the Colorado Technology Association gave Go Code Colorado its Technology Project of the Year Award. Earlier this year, Go Code Colorado was recognized as a Bright Idea by Harvard’s Kennedy School through its Innovations in American Government Awards competition. Go Code Colorado is also a finalist for this year’s IDEAS award, presented by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS).

"For 28 years now, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of technology to deliver genuine business value," said Maryfran Johnson, Editor in Chief of CIO magazine & events. "Our 2015 winners are an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage."
