Initiative 22 deemed sufficient

Denver, September 4, 2013 – Today Secretary of State Scott Gessler announced that the proposed ballot measure concerning "Funding for public schools" was found to be sufficient as required by statute.

Proponents submitted petitions for proposed Initiative 22 to the Secretary of State’s office on August 5. A five percent random sample review of the signatures projected the number of valid signatures to be less than 110 percent but more than 90 percent of the total number of signatures required for placement on the ballot. Under state law, the Secretary ordered a line-by-line review of every signature submitted. That review found 89,820 valid signatures. The proponents needed to obtain 86,105 valid signatures for placement on the ballot.

Under Colorado law, and barring a successful protest, the initiative will be numbered "Amendment 66."

Petition verification summary

Total number of qualified signature lines 165,710
Total number of entries rejected (invalid) 75,890
Total number of entries accepted (valid) 89,820
Total number of valid signatures required for placement on ballot 86,105
