Q1. What is a stud service lien and where can I find more information?

A1.  A stud service lien is a lien that may be filed by the keeper of a bull, ram, or boar in Colorado to secure payment for stud services (breeding services) provided to the livestock of another person.

Q2. What collateral secures a stud service lien?

A2.  Stud service liens are secured by the get (newborn animal or animals) resulting from the stud services provided by the bull, ram, or boar.

 

Q3. What is the duration of a stud service lien?

A3.  A stud service lien is good for one year from the day of birth of any animal born as a result of stud services provided by the bull, ram, or boar.

 

Q4. Where are stud service liens filed?

A4.  Stud service liens can be filed with the Colorado Secretary of State. For more information on filing, see section 4-9-501, C.R.S.
