Purpose/Objective of Rule |
The reason for this emergency rule is because of the growing concern with how outdoor mechanical cooling equipment responds to the installation of Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI) as required per article 210.8(F) of the 2020 version of the National Electric Code (NEC). The function of the mechanical cooling equipment is compromised because of a non-compatibility issue with the manufactured equipment, causing the equipment to turn off during use. This is a result of the GFCI tripping which terminates the power supply to the cooling equipment. As a result the occupants of the building are no longer receiving cool conditioned air. With the concern of human comfort/safety and rising temperatures during the summer months in mind, adopting this emergency rule would keep Colorado citizens in a comfortable and safe environment within their home. Adopting this emergency rule would not have a negative impact on the safety of the dwelling and its occupants. |
