| Description of Subjects/Issues |
This rulemaking process has been initiated as a result of feedback from the field supporting a
permanent shift in the improvement planning timeline beginning in the 2021-22 school year. Under this proposal, the main improvement plan submission date is moved up to October 15 for schools and districts from April 15. An exception would be made for districts and schools in special circumstances (e.g., newly identified on the accountability clock, request to reconsider, rating appeal) that may need more time for planning; the deadline would be moved to January 15 in these circumstances. The proposed rule amendments are intended to:
● Provide an improvement planning timeline for districts and schools to have an improvement
plan in place at the beginning of the school year, rather than wait until the spring for public
posting.
● Streamline the timeline so the vast majority of districts and schools will submit at the same
time.
● Provide the state more time to offer support to districts and schools in their improvement
efforts.
● If rules are adopted this fall, districts would get a full year to adjust their systems to
adequately prepare for the new timeline. |
