Description of Subjects/Issues These rules and regulations govern the payment of lump-sum death benefits to survivors of seasonal wildland firefighters who die while acting in the line of duty in Colorado.
Purpose/Objective of Rule The Colorado General Assembly adopted Senate Bill 14-47, codified in 24-33.5-1229, as a response to the growing number, intensity, and complexity of wildfires in Colorado. The legislation allows for a payment of $10,000 to the family of a seasonal wildland firefighter killed in the line of duty absent intentional misconduct or voluntary intoxication.
